ESOL: English for Speakers of Other Languages

If English is not your first language, our courses will:

  • Improve your spoken and written English.
  • Help you prepare to find a job.
  • Help you gain a Trinity ESOL qualification.

Who can attend an ESOL course?

  • European Union citizens.
  • People who have lived in the UK for at least three years and have permission to live in the UK.
  • Refugees.
  • Asylum seekers.
  • Non-eligible students (but an overseas fee is required)

The ESOL Team Manager will advise you on your eligibility.

How do I decide which course I need?

Drop into one of our centres where we will ask you to complete a free assessment. We will then arrange an interview to decide the best course for you, check your eligibility and talk about the qualifications you already have. For more information, email us at learnenglish@kent.gov.uk

  • Flexible payment plans are available – ask for details at your centre.
  • Overseas rates apply to non-eligible students.
  • If you are on a low income, we may be able to help you with the cost.
  • ESOL is free if you receive Job Seeker’s Allowance or (WRAG) Employment Support Allowance.
  • Fees are non-refundable if you withdraw from the course. Outstanding fees are also payable if you decide to withdraw early.
