Access to GCSE maths and English courses will run this year and have been designed to help potential GCSE students to improve their skills ready to join the next academic year GCSE intake.
Each year prior to joining any GCSE maths or English course, students are required to take an assessment to help us gauge the students abilities. Sadly not all students have a high enough level to join a class and we do not wish to set students up to fail. Particularly as the new syllabus is much harder and longer than in previous years.
The Access to GCSE course allows students to improve their maths levels by studying in the same way as the virtual GCSE students. Students can study some of the fundamental modules needed for the GCSE, which would give them a head start on the course and give them a degree of confidence they would not have otherwise.
At the end of the courses students sit Level 2 City and Guilds exam and gain accreditation for their work. As Level 2 numeracy is government funded this allows us to deliver the course free of charge to the students.
